That’s a “friendly melodic” hello you will hear anytime you come to music class at Washington Elementary.  “Noted information” you may find helpful….

W.E.S. gives all students K-5 a 45 minute music class once a week. During any class time you would find students engaged in movement, singing, speaking, listening, playing musical instruments, a variety of games, drama or just creating!

Students learn skills in the basic musical concepts of steady beat, rhythm, melody, harmony, form, tone color as well as units about composers, famous musicians, music style and historically how music is part of our past, present, and future.

Every child is encouraged to participate in a yearly Learning Center program that incorporates music with an integrated study of the curriculum. ALL children are allowed the opportunity to perform in a way they feel comfortable such as speaking, singing, acting, playing instruments or just being with their peers in large group, small group and/or solo activity.

4th and 5th Graders are given the opportunity to participate in our school’s “WASHINGTON TROUPE’” group. This group performs during the year within the community for area businesses, senior adult centers, hospitals and PTA meetings, as well as for our own Washington Family.

To further enrich our students related arts experience, music teams up with P.E or other related arts areas for theme units in specific academic subject areas such as social studies/folk dancing, music/art appreciation, Spanish music and celebrations just  to name a few.

Visitors are always welcome to join us- Just let us know when you want to come!
