Dr. Dwain Arnold has been named principal of John Adams Elementary School. Dr. Arnold has served as the principal of Roosevelt Elementary School for the past five years, having joined Kingsport City Schools as a teacher in 1988. He received his doctorate from East Tennessee State University in 2001 and became a National Board Certified Teacher in 1999. He has served as an adjunct faculty member at ETSU and has won several awards in teaching excellence, including the 1997 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Math Teaching.
John Adams Elementary School is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2009, with Dr. Arnold assuming the position July 1, 2008. Dr. Arnold will be charged with leading the development of the instructional model and organization of the school. “Being a part of a team at Roosevelt, where student learning is the center, has been rewarding in every aspect. I look forward to being a member of a new team which will continue the creative process of bringing to life John Adams Elementary. The invitation to be the principal of Kingsport’s new elementary school is an honor, and the opportunity of a lifetime,” Dr. Arnold said.

John Adams Holds First Public Walk-Through
Dr. Dwain Arnold and his staff at John Adams Elementary School just held their first public walk-through of the new building on Tuesday, June 16. Parents of children who will be attending the school in the fall were invited to participate in this informal "open house". The staff at John Adams is almost in place.
