Awards and Grants:

Wendy Harrison, 5th Grade teacher, received a $500.00 Eastman Chemical Company Putting Children First classroom grant in November 2007. These funds were used to purchase additional physical science materials.

The Rose Center awarded Jackson's Kindergarten $627.00 from the Student Ticket Subsidy Program to attend the Theatre Bristol performance of "Cinderella" on November 9, 2007.

ExxonMobil Educational Alliance Program awarded Jackson Elementary a $500.00 grant in 2007. These funds were used to help purchase technology equipment for classroom use.

Linda Gray and Jo Ann Price, Literacy Support teachers, received a $500.00 Eastman Chemical Company Putting Chidren First classroom grant in November 2006. These fundswere used to purchase materials to support reading intervention.

Selected as a State Title I distinguished schools in December 2004-05.

First grade teacher Karen Gardner received the Tennessee Eastman Putting Children First grant in 2005.
The grant was used to fund a ‘Reading Incentive Program' in 2004.
Funding for this grant is provided by the Tennessee General Assembly.
It is administered by the

Center in
Morristown.
- Wendy Jones, a fifth grade teacher at
Jackson, received the ‘Ignite the Light: Sparking Physical Science in the Classroom’ grant in 2005.
- Reading Specialist Brenda Gibson received the Tennessee Eastman Putting Children First grant for ‘Literacy Support Using Science Texts’ in 2004.

Jackson
Elementary School received a $40,000 grant from the Tennessee Lottery Education Afterschool Program (LEAP) in November 2005. LEAP awards are given to high quality local programs that serve at-risk students.
- Fourth grade teacher Erin Rolstad received a Tennessee Eastman Putting Children First grant in 2005 for ‘Responding to Non Fiction Literature’.
- Jackson Elementary was selected by the
Tennessee ‘Just for the Kids’ Best Practices Committee in 2004 as one of nine high performing elementary schools to participate in their study.
- Jackson Elementary was recognized in 2005 as a State Title I Distinguished School. This award recognizes commitment to ensuring effective instruction and challenging academic content for all students with particular attention to economically deprive children.
- Third grade teacher Judy Collins received a Tennessee Eastman ‘Putting Children First" grant in 2004.
