Kingsport City School's Inclement Weather Cancellation/Early Dismissal Policy

Cancellation of school takes place due to extreme weather conditions, equipment failure, public crisis or other unforeseen emergencies. The Board of Education and administrators are aware of the hardship that can be caused by an abrupt cancellation. Therefore, school will not be cancelled unless a significant safety risk has been created by unusual circumstances.

Snow Schedule
Kingsport City Schools will be in regular session unless an announcement is made. The school system has the responsibility for deciding to open or close school. If parents believe that road or weather conditions are dangerous and school has not been dismissed or cancelled for the day, parents may keep their children home. Absences during these circumstances are excused and the students may make up the work missed.

In the case of inclement weather, a decision to close school will be made usually by 6 a.m. and announced through the ParentLink information system. Parents will receive a ParentLink announcement call on the primary home contact number they have listed through their child's school. School cancellation information will also be available through Kingsport City School's website at www.k12k.com, Kingsport City Schools' radio station WCSK at 90.3 FM and other local media outlets.

Early Dismissal
For some emergencies, such as inclement weather, school officials will send students home early. You will receive notification through ParentLink, our parent/school communication system. Notification will also be provided through the school system website at www.k12k.com, the school system radio station WCSK at 90.3 FM and other local media outlets. If there has been an early dismissal and your child has not been picked up, your child's school will attempt to contact you. Please make sure you provide your school's office with the most up-to-date contact information so that we can easily reach you when necessary.
