Safety and Security

Kingsport City Schools is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for students, staff and visitors. In an effort to accomplish this goal, Kingsport City Schools has implemented system-wide security measures and developed a comprehensive Crisis Management Plan.

As part of our commitment to safety and security in our schools, KCS provides:

  • A uniformed School Resource officer at Dobyns-Bennett High School, John Sevier Middle School and Ross N. Robinson Middle School to provide assistance during the regular school day.
  • Video surveillance systems in all schools to help administrators monitor activities and provide record of events in halls, cafeterias, gyms, parking lots and other public areas of the campus.
  • Dobyns-Bennett High School offers an anonymous crime reporting hotline at (423)378-8505.  The hotline is designed to teach students the need for citizen involvement in reporting and preventing criminal offenses.
  • Portable radios allow administrators and staff to communicate about what is happening anywhere on the campus at any given time.
  • Computerized intrusion and fire alarms protect all district facilities.
  • Criminal background checks are performed on all applicants for employment.
  • Kingsport City Schools Middle Schools and High School hosts a "Natural Helpers" program where students can report incidents of concern to adult administrators.

Emergency Procedures

Kingsport City Schools has comprehensive emergency procedure plan in place. Our school system has developed and participates in Table Top Exercises, bringing our police, fire, rescue and school personnel together to work through a mock emergency exercise. Please review our Emergency Procedures Guide to learn what parents and students should do in case of an emergency.
